TIGER TIME

A NIGHT FOR DYING TIGERS update

Along with Sidney Chiu, there is now another member of the team, Casting Director Lynne Carrow.

We’re speaking with some great actors and their representatives (who have also been great), and we’re working out an audition schedule for a few roles.

It’s very exciting, the prospect of seeing and hearing these characters come to life. It’s such a specific social and physical milieu, and it’s tough for a human being who’s grown up outside of this world to capture the specificity required to pull  it off. But we’re going to find these people!

Next up, auditions, offers, shooting format, and (VERY SMALL) crew (not small as in height and weight, but, rather, small as in 7).

It looks like January is when we’ll be shooting.

Can’t wait!

Working it out

It’s all about working. I’ve just returned from a week long script polishing trip to Tofino. It seems like the script for A NIGHT FOR DYING TIGERS has reached a critical mass as far as the number of drafts, and from this point forward, I think I’ll need to focus my rewrites based on cast and location.

Sidney Chiu, somebody I’ve wanted to work with for quite a while, is helping me produce the film.

Having Sidney sign on as a Producer has been amazing. He is smart and driven and dedicated, and did I mention smart?

This leaves me much more time to focus on Writing and Directing. Although I’m still doing Producer things as well, I’m not “stressed” by that end of the operation, and I know I can count on Sidney when things get crazy (and they do get crazy).

So, we’re entering the world of CASTING. We have our eyes on some pretty great people, and it looks like we’ll be finding some cast through the audition process as well.

Looking forward to the new challenges, meeting new cast, and new crew. Looking forward to getting a firm production start date. Looking forward to getting back behind the camera.

SOMEWHERE TO BEGIN

A NIGHT FOR DYING TIGERS

Today, Friday August 28th, 2009.

I begin work on my new feature film, A NIGHT FOR DYING TIGERS.

NOTES

I’m still getting notes and working out logistics. When it comes to notes, it’s remarkable how many different points of view an ensemble film script can draw out.

If I made every change suggested, I would end up with a 300 minute long after school special. Crazy! But I’ve grown to really love notes, and, as long as I retain final cut, which is something I would never relinquish, reader’s notes can really help open up new perspective.

But, even more than new perspective, I need cast.

I plan on shooting in NOVEMBER, so it’s time to get casting.
